About International Fruit Tree Association
In 1958, The International Fruit Tree Association began its existence as the Dwarf Fruit Tree Association.
A small meeting of fruit growers in Hartford, Michigan met to discuss the increasing interest in planting dwarf trees in commercial orchards.
As the meeting ended, it was proposed that the meeting become a regular, annual affair with the goal of keeping tree fruit growers informed and up-to-date on the latest information and research.
From these humble beginnings, IFTA has grown into an international organization noted for its commitment to furthering the fruit tree industry. Robert was a former Executive Secretary of IDFTA (IFTA) and the namesake of the Carlson Lecturer at the IFTA Annual Conference.
IFTA has conducted numerous international meetings and events and its membership spans the globe and is comprised of leading orchards and tree fruit researchers.

IFTA pursues world-class research, teaching and travel to advance knowledge, inspire innovation and build a global community of tree fruit professionals.
IFTA fulfills this commitment to members and the tree fruit industry by providing timely, cutting-edge information at the Annual Conference and the summer Study Tours. IFTA also provides global educational opportunities for members, hosting international study tours and conferences in Europe, Asia and Oceania.
IFTA is also dedicated to providing educational opportunities through Young Professionals Scholarships, which allow the younger generation of tree fruit growers to gather knowledge and important contacts in the fruit tree industry.
IFTA’s Research Foundation is committed to funding horticultural research and rootstock trials. Your support helps IFTA continue to provide knowledge and research information of value to the tree fruit industry.
